Your favorite Atari games

Post by MeNoSeeGood » Tue Aug 10, 2010 10:59 pm

I actually grew up playing an Atari and had quite a number of games for it. What's everyone's favorite Atari games? I'll list a few of mine (including things ported from arcades and such)

Warlords (probably my favorite)
Yar's Revenge
Jungle Hunt
River Raid
Enduro
Currently playing--Borderlands 2 (PC)
Persona 3: FES (on my PS3)
NCAA Football 13 (PS3 - run a ACC/SEC dynasty)
Walking Dead (PC)

ET is the best game on Atari 2600, obviously.

I'm actually a fan of E.T. (if mostly for it's infamy). I was probably one of the few people back then who took the time to actually figure out what you were supposed to do (I read the instructions). I once made a video where I cleared a 'round' of the game in under two minutes on the most difficult setting (and I can most likely still do it). There's actually a lot of interesting easter eggs in the game as well, considering it's extremely short development time.

That, and I used to think the FBI agent was Inspector Gadget.

As for overly complex games that were intentionally made that way go, research the Swordquest games. Quite an interesting history behind those. Atari actually gave away gold prizes to the first people to complete the first two (and would have done the same for the later two if the company held up). I had the second one (Fire World), and had no idea what to do, so I just played the minigames.

I saw the AVGN bit about Swordquest. I actually have the Fire World version of Swordquest as well and beat a few things in it but never really figured out what to do. Of course I was a kid back then and didn't realize you had to use the comic book (which I had and read as well). I wish I could go back and play it now...it's still at my house somewhere.
