I went the whole day not knowing anything about Pokemon Day, but thankfully, I have a Poke-crazy friend Eevee who caught me up on the details. We decided to have a special Pokemon stream, playing different party-like Pokemon games. We focused mainly on both Stadium games, and Neko also stopped by later in the night to join the festivities, and was sucked into playing the Stadium games for the first time. He enjoyed the simplicity. Afterward, I took a stab at Pokemon Puzzle League for a bit. Sadly, our copy of Pokemon Snap was not behaving tonight, and nobody wanted to go near Hey You, Pikachu! The close out the night, Neko launched a few rounds of Peggle 2, his latest obsession in the gaming world.
Sunday’s for me usually involve lots of cleaning, and certainly dishes. Since it’s the only day I have off from work, it all kinda piles up, but I don’t mind it; I quite enjoy cleaning! Washed the floors, doors, walls, even vacuumed thoroughly with the fancy attachments. Dog and I took a trip to the mall and preordered Zelda Breath and Horizon Zero Dawn. We also picked up another Zelda puzzle which I hope to get to once I finish up the wicked evil NES version… We grabbed some Chipotle and watch Star Wars Episode IV and, of course, The Walking Cat. We ended with streaming Paper Mario, which Dog is currently streaming.
On Saturday nights, I typically enjoy streaming an online game. Lately it has been Mario Kart 8, and tonights races were very unique. It turns out that there were five separate occasions where each of us got a 69 point score during our races, including myself, who seemingly only got it for the first time ever (in the game, that is…). To celebrate, we usually post about it in our Miiverse community. YoshiDDR, a fantastic racer and adorably cute Yoshi, manages to frequently score a 69 in the races. Tonight while looking through my Swapdoodle notes, it seems that Yoshi had sent me some art of his 69 journey in the tournament. He had a frame where you see his shirt AND pants being tossed off his body. Oh my. In the next frame was a beautifully drawn, sleek and sexy Yoshi sporting golden underwear and a ripped chest. It had me rolling. I didn’t expect it from him. At all. It was so great. I love love LOVED it. And I LOVE YOSHIDDR!
We’ve been having some pretty yucky luck with having a decent Friday lately, but the sun continues to shine a good time. It was also a stroke of good luck for me, having seemingly lost my 11 year old iPod since last Friday somehow turned up today! I’ll explain what had happened.
After leaving a group lesson last Friday, during the downpour in the mid afternoon, I had to cross the street to get to my car. I was also running a bit late to my next class, which didn’t help. Anyway, as I was putting my large bag of music stuffs into my car, I just threw it over the front seat into the back seat. Normally I take the time to open my trunk and place it there, but in my haste with the weather conditions and time management, I decided against it. I went on with my day until I came home that night and started lesson planning for the next day. When I generated a new playlist on my computer for tomorrow’s class, I went to grab my iPod from the bag for syncing and… it wasn’t there. Everything else was, though. The speaker, the wiring and plushies. I noticed that I didn’t fully zip the side. Gosh darnit, now what. Don’t tell me I left it at the school. I then realized that the school would be closed all weekend and also on Monday due to President’s Day, so I wouldn’t be able to check until at least Tuesday. Oh nooooo. Or maybe it fell out in the car as I sloppily tossed it over the front seat? Possible. It was dark outside, and the iPod was black and tiny. I searched what felt like everywhere, and nothing. I ripped apart all of my bags, knowing full well it could have never been there, but you never know. Then I started having horrible thoughts of it falling out between my transit from the school to my car, sitting on the pavement during the downpour, washed away into the sewers, or fallen out just before getting into my car and being run over, or having someone find it and keeping it. Just horrible. I originally got it from a friend of mine back in 2006 who found it in their schools’ lost and found. It ended up never getting claimed for over 30 days, so she gave it to me. I ended up using it a lot during my commutes on the NYC Subway to and from student teaching. I’ve held onto it ever since. But NO WAY it’s gone! Sadly I created a backup plan and moved the music to my phone to playback for at least tomorrow’s lesson. It worked, but interfered with my once-immaculate pacing and transitions between songs. It came to a head when I had a dream that I had FOUND MY iPOD. It was in my hands, and I could see the faded silver back!! When I woke up and I still didn’t have it, I grew anxious. Maybe this was a sign?
Today, while driving to work, I had remembered that several group classes were not in session due to the Winter Break, and my box of keyboards wasn’t touched. What if. WHAT IF. While I had thrown the bag into the backseat… Maybe it somehow fell out of the bag and into the keyboard tote. Possible? After parking, I tore up the back seat and dragged the tote out. I puled out a few keyboards, but I didn’t it. I pulled out the last two and guess what fell out from being stuck between two keyboards. Yep! There it was! The happiness I felt was glorious. I happily charged it while I taught the remainder of my classes for the day. Now to share this happy ending with my class tomorrow!
Through all of these many consecutive days of constant rain and chilly weather, it’s great to see the sun out again. And with rainy weather comes faster development of potholes, something I’m not used to seeing here. Also more roadwork has been completed to fix all those ridiculous potholes that have been rampant on my daily commute to work. They didn’t just fill in the holes which come apart in a few weeks, but rather ripped up full slabs of concrete and replaced it with giant replacements. I noticed my ride home tonight was much smoother. I was already preconditioned to know exactly where to swerve to avoid these potholes. I’m hoping the entire road itself will be repaved sometime soon.
Today I also learned what causes potholes in the first place, thanks to KQED.
So it seems that the entire state of California is officially out of the drought. Very exciting, though I have already been used to the water-saving measures taken the past few years. The only downside is the flooding in the area, resulting in road closures and several delays for travel. As many as 16,000 families needed to evacuate their houses due to the flooding in San Jose. Crazy!
The modder confirmed that he received my package, so that was one less thing I have to worry about. I don’t mind him taking his time with the project, I’m in no hurry getting it back, and I know what kind of work needs to go into it to get it installed. I would have done it myself, but I lack the proper tools and felt it needed to be handled by someone experienced.
Happy President’s Day! I hope you all enjoyed your day off. And for those who didn’t have the day off, I’m sorry if you had to drive in this rain the lasted all day. Since I was stuck indoors the whole day, I went through the fridge and started to cook whatever I could find, including some cookie dough packets from forever ago. I also made some pancakes! Not your typical Monday, but it worked for us!
Many of you know I’m a music teacher. In California State, there is a music program that offers yearly testing and evaluations for student performances. It is optional, but it’s also a good motivator for some. As I am a member of MTAC, we are required to “mandatory volunteer’ throughout the day doing different things. I usually end up grading theory papers, which I am happy to do. Unfortunately, it takes away my whole Sunday, but thankfully, tomorrow is a federal holiday, so I’ll be able to do my usual Sunday stuff then. And really throw off my schedule and confuse myself.
It seems I forgot to follow my tracking number regarding my NES I had sent off a few days back. It seems to have arrived to its destination okay, but the modder won’t be able to pick it up until Tuesday, which is fine with me. I’m in no rush to get it back anyway. I’m happy enough to know it got there.
